FEATURES
Overview & Principal Capabilities
- Stitching Combines a set of overlapping images that form a grid of rows and columns and automatically stitches them together to create a unified panorama which is stored on the local disk.
- Viewing Displays the panorama on the local disk, allowing the user to zoom and pan.
- Uploading Uploads the panorama to GigaPan.com for sharing.
- Exporting Takes a panorama on the local disk and writes it to a single file in TIFF, Photoshop RAW, or KRO image format which can then be edited in Photoshop or other image editing software.
The Steps of Stitching
- Alignment Takes the input images and determines from the pixels of the images how they overlap.
- Projection Stretches and rotates the images to make them align.
- Blending Combines the images as seamlessly as possible.
GigaPan Stitch does the work for you! It´s automatic.
GigaPan Stitch is easy to use with a simple interface. Our stitching software does not require the user to indicate corresponding points manually; alignment is determined automatically. GigaPan Stitch also corrects for radial distortion (if your camera lens has some barrel or pincushion distortion). Works with the images from virtually all cameras, from 1 megapixel (MP) cell phone cameras to inexpensive point-and-shoot cameras to 50+ MP professional DSLRs.
GigaPan Stitch is fast!
For panoramas with several hundred input images, stitching can be as fast as shooting (just seconds per input image). GigaPan export of their panorama before it is completed. GigaPan Stitch can do stitching, viewing, uploading, and exporting simultaneously, if desired.
Achieves high quality results.
GigaPan Stitch does automatic alignment, projection, and feathered blending so that, in many cases, the seams between images will be invisible. The resolution and detail of your input images is retained.
Uses minimal memory.
On most computers, its memory use is modest enough that other applications, such as web browser or email, can be running simultaneously, and not be slowed too much. If desired, stitching jobs can be paused and resumed.
Stitches high number of input images.
Can range from two to thousands. Supported input formats include JPEG, TIFF, and PNG. Together, the images can cover a small angle of view, or they could cover 360 degrees horizontally and 180 degrees vertically.Works with most computers. It is compatible with Windows versions XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, and with Intel-based Macintosh OS X (10.4.9 and later). We require 1 GB of memory (but 2 GB or more is recommended), and enough disk space to hold your input images, plus 50%. GigaPan Stitch runs faster on bigger computers, taking advantage of multi-core processors and more memory.
Extends the resolution of your camera.
If you have a 10 megapixel camera, for example, shooting a few hundred pictures and running GigaPan Stitch will give you nearly the same results as a 1 gigapixel camera.
GigaPan Upload
The GigaPan Upload application comes packaged with GigaPan Stitch. Upload takes a single (potentially huge) image file and uploads the image to GigaPan.com. The Upload application is useful when an image previously stitched with GigaPan Stitch is edited in Photoshop, for example. The input file format can be TIFF, JPEG, Photoshop RAW (not to be confused with camera RAW), KRO, BMP, PNG, or RGB.
What's new with GigaPan Stitch version 1.0:
- Improved speed Stitching is faster, about 3-7x faster. GigaPan Stitch can take advantage of multiple cores, so machines with 4 or 8 cores may see even larger speedups. Upload is typically 2-4x faster.
- Preview with precision About 1/3 of the way through stitching, a panorama appears on screen.
This is, at first, a low resolution preview of the final result, but as the stitching continues, it is refined into the full high resolution result. As a result you can start to inspect your panorama quickly and efficiently.
- Uses less memory, allowing you to stitch larger panoramas.
- Initiate upload immediately after stitching starts. The same for export. These changes make it easier for you to start a stitch, set up an upload or export, and go do something else.
- Improved results for 360 degree panoramas
